D -- GOES SATELLITE DATA ARCHIVING AND DISTRIBUTION POC Contract Specialist, Ms. Marlene Quade, 301/713-0839, Contracting Officer, Ms. Aileen Redding, 301/713-0839 The DOC/NOAA intends to negotiate with the University of Wisconsin- Madison, Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC), Madison, Wisconsin, under contract 50-DDNE-1-00036, for a six-month extension of the contract. The University/SSEC has been archiving and distributing NOAA GOES data for more than 18 years. The University/ SSEC developed a proprietary system for the archiving of the satellite data. The system uses a unique method of recording digital data onto analog media that is not commercially available. The government requires the data to continuously be archived and distributed. An extension of the current contract is required to maintain the continuance of archiving and distributing GOES satellite data. If any other company/firm can provide these services, they can provide adequate technical and cost information to the POC to allow the government to analyze their abilities. See Numbered Note 22.
