648-7901 This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for
Information (RFI). The information received will be used as part of a
market survey. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) requests technical
information from the vendor community on commercially available system
maintenance and repair for a suite of Aviion UNIX based computing
systems that consist of multiple configurations of DG fileservers,
Clariion disk arrays and workstations, Network Computing Device (NCD)
x-terminals, and printers. The systems are distributed throughout the
United States and it's possessions at approximately 160 locations
(including; Alaska, Guam, Hawaii and Puerto Rico). With the exception
of the NCD x-terminals, all systems are currently covered by an
existing full service maintenance contract with Data General. The
existing contract also includes unlimited site license maintenance for
certain software components including: DG/UX operating system; and
applications software such as Framemaker and Ingres. This announcement
is seeking information regarding possible sources of third party
maintenance for Data General Aviion systems, non Data General SCSI
storage devices, NCD x-terminals, printers and noted software. The
Government is interested in obtaining information about specific types
of hardware maintenance (including, but not limited to full-service,
Time & Materials, depot, etc.), whether software maintenance service
can be accommodated, how the responder handles all the sites
distributed, as noted above, and what response times can be expected.
Information regarding commercial pricing that is publicly available may
be included to illustrate pricing for described types of support. Any
pricing information submitted that contains restrictions on its
disclosure will be returned to the vendor and not considered as part of
this market survey. This request is not a formal RFP and NO contract
will result from this synopsis. Any subsequent solicitation will be
synopsized prior to its release. No decision has been made regarding
set-aside of any possible subsequent procurement(s). The Government
will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis.
Information responding to this request should be received by COB on
