(510)372-2046 Contractor shall provide Scarce Medical Specialist
Services of a Medical Physicist and a Medical Physics Technician to run
the Radiation Safety program at the VA Outpatient Clinic, 150 Muir
Road, Martinez, California. Medical Physicist shall provide services 16
hours per month and Medical Physics Technician shall provide services
24 hours per month. Physicist shall conduct X-ray equipment surveys and
quarterly evaluations of Nuclear Medicine equipment, train employees
regarding exposure to radiation sources, audit NRC mandated Quality
Management program, provide physics support to Nuclear Medicine for
therapies, conduct monthly review of dosimetry badges, coordinate
shipment of radioactive waste, prepare NRC license documentation and
coordinate NRC decommissioning activities. Technician shall conduct
quarterly surveys of laboratory facility, conduct weekly surveys of
waste area and Radiation Safety Lab area, conduct leak tests of scaled
source inventories, issue and track dosimeters and conduct radioactive
package surveys. In case of emergency, physicist and/or technician must
be able to respond on site at the VAOPC, Martinez within 3 hours of
notification by the VA. Contractor will be required to perform
approximately 10-15% of services at VA Outpatient Clinics in Oakland,
Sacramento and Redding, California. Contract period; approx.
5/1/96-9/30-96 with two one year options. Qualifications: Medical
Physicist shall 1) have a Masters Degree or Ph.D. in Medical Physics,
Health Physics or related field with Board Certification in Diagnostic
Radiologic Physics by the American Board of Radiology or American
Board of Medical Physics; 2) have recent experience as Radiation Safety
Officer or consultant to a medical facility licensed by the NRC to
perform nuclear medicine and biomedical research; 3) have recent
experience writing NRC license amendments related to medical use of
radiation; 4) have recent experience with calibration and testing of
diagnostic X-ray equipment; 5) meet ACR/FDA qualifications for
mammography medical physicist and OSHA requirements for laser safety,
and 6) have experience in decommissioning of a NRC licensed medical
facility. Medical Physics Technician shall 1) have a Bachelor's Degree
in Nuclear Medicine Technology or Medical Science; 2) be certified by
AART or NMTCB, and 3) have a minimum of one-year experience working in
