COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 6,1996 PSA#1545CANADA: SNOWMOBILES The following notification is being circulated in
accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 96.30. 1. Member to
Agreement notifying: CANADA. If applicable, name of local government
involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: Department of
Transport. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or
CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading, ICS numbers
may be provided in addition, where applicable): Snowmobiles. 5. Title
and number of pages of the notified document: Proposed Amendment to
the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (pages 463-465). 6. Description of
content: Effective 8 June 1994, the Snowmobile Safety and Certification
Committee, Inc. (SSCC) reaffirmed its Safety Standards for Snowmobile
Product Certification and the accompanying Supplement without changing
their requirements. This revision was undertaken because of the
reaffirmation, without change, of the standards published by the
Society of Automotive Engineers to which the SSCC Standards and
Supplement make reference. This amendment updates and clarifies Section
1201's incorporation of the SSCC Standards and Supplement, and
stipulates those standards and test procedures that are obligatory. It
also requires that the information affixed to and supplied with
snowmobiles be provided in both French and English. In response to
recommendations made by the Department of Transports' Regulatory Review
Committee, this amendment also revokes Section 1200 of the Regulations.
It contains two definitions: ``load carrying part'', which is no longer
used, and ''snowmobile trailer'', which is already defined in the
interpretation section. 7. Objective and rationale: Protection of human
safety. 8. Relevant documents: Canada Gazette, Part I, 3 February 1996.
9. Proposed date of adoption and entry into force: Not stated. 10.
Final date for comments: 2 April 1996. (064) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0444 19960305\FO-0006)
