Chandler, Contracting Officer, 301-286-6303. The Request for Proposal
(RFP) for the Scientific and Engineering Workstation Procurement (SEWP
II) has been released. It is available on the WWW at
http://sewp.nasa.gov:8000. This RFP is for the procurement of 34,000
workstations and supporting equipment. There are eight classes of XPG4
UNIX based workstations, four classes of supporting equipment, and a
compute server class. Category A is comprised of eight classes of
workstations and are identified as Class 1--Electrical CAD; Class
2--Mechanical CAD; Class 3--Real-Time; Class 4--Data Server; Class
5--3-D Graphics; Class 6--Software Development; Class 7--General
Purpose; Class 8--Geographical Information Systems. Categroy B is
compised of four supporting classes which are identifed as follows:
Class 9--Computer Support Devices; Class 10--Networking; Class
11-Administrative File Server O/S; Class 12--Storage Devices (Small
Business Set-Aside). Class 13 which comprises category C is identified
as a Compute Server. All classes of workstations shall meet minimum
mandatory general specifications, and each class shall have further
unique specifications. These will be Indefinite Quantity/Indefinite
Delivery contracts for the period of 1 base year and three 1 year
option periods. The government anticipates using the following Mission
Suitability factors which will be numerically scored: 1) Excellence of
Proposed Systems; 2) Offerors Support and Commitment; and 3) Management
Plan. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a Qualification Criteria
that must receive a ''go'' rating. There are specific benchmark
requirements for each class. Vendors shall provide pricing for all
items listed in the class proposed (all or none), and may propose more
than one class. Vendors must submit separate and distinct proposals
for each class proposed. The RFP is issued as a result of
RFC5-22222/042. This acquisition is being conducted under a specific
acquisition authority. The specific GSA DPA case number is KAA-96-0004.
