The Weather Management Branch, HQ SSG OL-B/SDFM, is seeking information to identify sources who can provide Direct Broadcast Services (DBS) via satellite communications capable of one-way broadcasting of digital information at an effective high data rate (HDR) of 12 Mbps or greater in an open system architecture. The Remote unit's antenna dish shall be no larger than 24''. The corresponding Indoor Unit (IDU) shall interface with a laptop via an asynchronous line at a rate comparable to the receive rate. The Remote system shall be ruggedized and manpack transportable requiring a maximum of two (2) people to setup or teardown in maximum one (1) hour. Ideally, information that specifies other services offered such as Internet access, Multimedia, etc. is welcome. Your response should include system architectural configuration (size, weight, satellite network infrastructure, etc.) and technical literature (no detailed cost/pricing data). Proprietary data should be clearly marked as such. This is a Request for Information only. This request does not in any way constitute an IFB or RFP, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
