Two-way satellite-based mobile communications system to provide near real time interactive communications between the Boise (NIFC) base station and field crews located anywhere in the 11 western states. System to provide automatic positioning information on all field crews who are often in very remote locations. Longitude and latitude information must be automatically sent independent of any messaging from the mobile units. Position information should accompany regular messaging and also be updated no less than once every 60 minutes even if no message is sent. Systems to have emergency/panic key functionality for all mobile units. Systems to interface with existing QTRACS software and be compatible with Government-furnished hardware. Total quantity of 6 each. Delivery to address in Note 7 anticipated by June 7, 1996. Procurement is not restricted but only written quotations will be accepted. Commercial item and simplified acquisition procedures will be used for award. Anticipated award date is May 6, 1996.
