(312/751-7130). The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) seeks
information about the availability of data storage equipment for our
IBM mainframe 3090-400J computer, to replace or supplement our current
approximately 300 gigabytes of IBM 3380 direct access storage devices
(DASD). The Data Storage Equipment solution presented to this agency
by any firm must provide the following functionalities: 1). provide
complete compatibility without any job control language changes or
other RRB adaptations; 2.) the proposed storage equipment must present
the same image to our IBM mainframe as the current DASD; 3.) provide
adequate internal data redundancy and/or error recovery to assure
greater dependability than conventional DASD; 4.) provide improved
system performance over conventional DASD; 5.) Provide the required
design/engineering assistance to assure a successful installation and
implementation; 6.) provide adequate training for appropriate RRB Data
Processing personnel; 7.) provide an original equipment manufacturer
(OEM) certificate of mantainability, if the offered equipment is not
new from the OEM. The proposed equipment must interface with the
current RRB hardware/software environment. To provide a response to
this notice, vendors must obtain a copy of the document describing the
current RRB environment. To obtain this document, vendors must submit
a request on company letterhead. These requests should be submitted
within 10 calendar days of publication of this notice. Facsimile
requests for this document will be accepted and should be sent to (312)
751-4923. Upon receipt of the RRB document, by return mail, interested
parties should submit hardcopy literature describing the software
product(s), pricing and General Services Administration (GSA) contract
number, if applicable. Also requested is a statement of vendor
qualifications, experience and references concerning the described
software. The vendor hardcopy documents must be received at the RRB by
close of business, April 12, 1996. THIS IS NOT a Request for Proposals
(RFP). NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS. No telephone calls will be
