99 -- SHELF LIFE CONFERENCE Due 032296, contact point, Debbie Trautman, Code 0541, (717) 790-1506. Product Shelf-Life - from date of manufacture/cure/assembly/pack, the amount of time that an item can remain on the shelf in the package state, until deterioration occurs, causing the item to be disposed of, or tested for re-use. It affects everyone and everything - from the food we eat to the medicine we take to the batteries we use. For both our personal and professional existence shelf-life limitations have altered the way we buy, use, and store material. However, due to the critical use of certain common off the shelf items, the Department of Defense and GSA limit shelf-life time frames to insure 100% readiness. And, with a large portion of hazardous material having limited life expectancy, the safety of our environment is compromised due to excessive hazardous waste and exorbitant disposal costs. In an attempt to alleviate some of the problems associated with providing the military services with usable material, the DOD Shelf-Life Committee is asking for your help. The 3rd Annual DOD/Industry Shelf-Life Conference is scheduled for 18-20 June 1996 as the Harrisburg Hilton, Harrisburg, PA. We are currently compiling a list of speakers for this event.
