M -- NOTICE OF INTENTION TO EXTEND AN EXISTING CONCESSION CONTRACT - LAKE MEAD RECREATION AREA The National Park Service intends to extend the concession contract which will expire on December 31, 1996, at Overton Beach site within Lake Mead National Recreation Area for a period of three years. This extension is necessary to allow the continuation of public services during the completion period of the planning documents for the park. The National Park Service will not renew this contract for an extended period until planning can be conducted to determine the future direction for concession services at that site within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The necessary planning process is expected to commence and its conclusion will have a direct affect on the concession services. The planning process is expected to take two to three years to complete. Until the planning process is completed, it will not be in the best interest of Lake Mead National Recreation Area to enter into a long term concession contract. For these reasons, it is intention of the National Park Service to extend the current contract for a period of three years beginning January 1, 1997. (068)
