http://www.ornl.gov/Materials_Recycle/home.html. In 1985, the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) discontinued uranium enrichment operations
at the Gaseous Diffusion facilities in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The
discontinuation of these operations resulted in underutilized
facilities, equipment, materials and infrastructure (roads, utilities
and numerous industrial buildings). To establish a sustainable
commercial industry for the Oak Ridge region, DOE is making these
assets available for private sector use. There are diverse facilities,
equipment, materials, infrastructure and services to offer the private
sector. Available structures include a wide variety of industrial
facilities. The construction of the gaseous diffusion assemblies
required thousands of tons of valuable metals including nickel,
aluminum, stainless steel and copper. Thousands of electric motors
(rated up to 3,300 horsepower) and companion switch gear, controls and
cabling were used to power the diffusion process. As is inherent with
the diffusion process, some of these assets are contaminated with
radioactive and chemical materials. DOE is hosting an Industry Advice
and Information Exchange Workshop to discuss these assets and potential
business opportunities with business and industry on April 2 and 3,
1996. The Workshop, ``Vision 2010: Defederalization and
Reindustrialization of the Oak Ridge Reservation,'' will give attendees
an overview of available facilities, equipment and material salvage and
recycle operations in Oak Ridge's facilities. DOE will feature its
fully functional industrial machining, fabrication and manufacturing
facilities that are offered for lease or sale. Dialogue will be
initiated with business and industry representatives to assist DOE in
transferring major portions of the Oak Ridge Reservation to private
tenants. The Workshop will be held at the Oak Ridge High School, 127
Providence Road in Oak Ridge. Tours of various facilities will be
conducted at the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation. Those planning to take the
tour, should bring photo identification with their full name and birth
date and inform DOE representatives of any special needs. Special tours
must be scheduled for foreign nationals for a later date (at least 12
weeks notice is needed). To help us serve you better, please register
by March 22. To register, call (423) 574-3027, toll free: (800)

be sent to U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge Operations Office,
Vision 2010 Workshop, P.O. Box 2001, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Individual
meetings with representatives of DOE and the Community Reuse
Organization of East Tennessee (CROET), DOE's leasing and economic
development representative, to discuss specific interests can be
scheduled for April 4. To schedule a meeting call Claudia Gibson at
