T -- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR PAPER MAP REVISION AND PRODUCT GENERATION CAPABILITIES POC Deborah S. Boles, Contracting Officer, (303) 236-5900 x316 This is not an announcement of a solicitation. This is a request for information. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is interested in developing a contract mechanism to meet paper map revision and other product generation requirements of the National Mapping Division (NMD). The term ''map revision'' is self-describing; ''product generation'' is generally described as the manipulation of cartographic data files or of analog map separates such that a symbolized graphic representation of the map can be viewed and reproduced. Product generation from revised digital files or graphic revision and product generation from map separates may be required for any of the 1:24,000-scale, 1:25,000-scale, 1:50,000-scale and 1:100,000-scale County, 1-50,000-scale DMA, 1:100,000-scale, National Park Series, and other special-use graphic map products. The primary intent of the USGS is to obtain fully revised color map separates from which press-ready reproduction negatives can be produced for base and derivative map products. Materials to be furnished by the government may include any of the following: map separates in analog form including both feature and lettering separates, revised or unrevised digital cartographic files in standard USGS formats such as Digital Line Graphs (DLG) and Digital Raster Graphics (DRG), and imagery in conventional analog and digital form such as National Aerial Photography Program (NAPP) and Digital Orthophoto Quadrangle (DOQ) imagery. Specific services may include any or all of the following activities: analog revision and correction of topographic map feature and lettering separates; production of revised feature and lettering separates for various derivative map products; revision of digital cartographic files in standard USGS formats; and graphic product generation from revised standard digital cartographic files such that press-ready reproduction negatives can be produced. Industry response is solicited to indicate the level of interest in providing these types of services. All responsible parties are encouraged to respond in writing. All responses should contain sufficient technical documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe the capability to provide the required services and products in the above description. Technical and commercial pricing in response to the above description is being requested from private industry in as much detail as organizations are willing to provide. Proprietary data that contains restrictions on its release should not be submitted. Neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available from the USGS. No formal solicitation or contract will result from this synopsis for industry information; any subsequent solicitation will be synopsized prior to its release. Information responding to this request should be received within forty-five days from publication of this notice. Submit responses to Tim Saultz, USGS, 1400 Independence Road, MS110, Rolla, MO, 65401. (0074)
