The Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS requires construction services for a new Fuel Systems Maintenance Hangar. Project involves the construction of an approximate 31,000 SF Hangar that will support fully enclosed maintenance of a B-1 bomber aircraft. This facility will support indoor work on open aircraft fuel cells in an environment that requires Class I, Division II NEC compliance. Facility will have adjoining administrative spaces, shop, tool/equipment storage areas. The project will include significant removal of existing former aircraft ramp pavement, landscaping, site utility connections and the rerouting of underground utility systems. Natural gas building heating will be provided with electrical air conditioning of administrative spaces. Special features will include the construction of a concrete aircraft pavement towway, above ground storage of back-up diesel fuel, a natural gas driven emergency power generator, special hangar by fuel vapor exhaust, aircraft washing apparatus, and fabric hangar bay aircraft access as well as a small vehicle access doors. Install a complete fire detection/suppression system, remote facility will house a contractor provided pumping system, underground water storage, AFFF recovery and overhead/underwing hangar bay fire suppression system. Facility will have a brick, metal sandwich panel siding and raised seam metal roofing system. Estimated cost of this project is between $5 and $10 million. It is anticipated that plans and specifications will be available on or about 9 April 1996.
