Department of Defense, Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology
Division, (NAVEODTECHDIV) is contemplating the acquisition of
commerical off-the-shelf (COTS) obstacle avoidance sonar (OAS) units as
described below during the 1997 fiscal year. This announcement is NOT
a formal solicitation and is NOT a request for proposals. Any formal
solicitation will be announced separately. This synopsis is for
information and planning purposes only and is not to be construed as a
commitment by the Government. The OAS shall provide information to the
operator which permits the detection of objects in the water column at
ranges up to 200 meters (100 meter threshold). The intended operating
environment is shallow water, therefore, single wide beam fish-finder
sonars are not desired. Information submitted on each of the following
qualifications should be pertinent and specific in the technical area
under consideration: (1) A description of current production sonar
units which may meet the OAS needs established above; (2) How and where
those units are being used in the field; and (3) A description of the
facilities, equipment, and key personnel to be used in the production
of any OAS units. Responses should be limited in length to 10 pages.
Responses must be received no later than close of business 30 April
1996 to be included in the source list for all appropriate FY 1997
competitions. Telephone responses will not be honored. There is no
specific format or outline that your response must follow. Incluse
other descriptive literature and any other specific and pertinent
information that would enhance our consideration and evaluation of the
information submitted. Firms responding should indicate whether they
are a small business (s), a small disadvantaged business (SDB), 8(a),
or large business (L). Responses should be addressed to the Indian Head
