Project involves the reassembly, installation, and operational runoff
of a heavy duty, long bed lathe by the original equipment manufacturer
(OEM). The lathe is R.D.&D. Corporation model SL48, serial 480490.
Nominal size is a 60 inch diameter swingover with an 85 foot bed
length. R.D.&D. Corporation is now part of Dorries Scharmann, Inc. 2.
Subcontracted services required include millwright and mobile crane
capability for lifting and handling lathe components and accessories
from a storage building (B178) and positioning components on a
Government furnished foundation at the installation site, building 300.
The heaviest component is 72 tons. Transportation of all lathe
components and accessories from storage building (B178) to installation
site (B300) is also required. Distance between sites is approximately
one half-mile, all of which is located within the Controlled Industrial
Area (CIA) at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, located in Kittery, ME.
