The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project is seeking qualified firms to fabricate (2) Dummy Mirrors for the Gemini 8-m Telescopes. The Dummy Mirrors will be round fabricated steel structures, 8 meters in diameter by 20 cm. thick, built to a design provided by the Gemini Project. Each Dummy Mirror will be spherically dished, with a sag from edge to center of approximately 285 mm. Each Dummy Mirror will be fabricated in three sections that bolt together to form the completed structure. The outside diameter and the convex side of each Dummy Mirror will require machining. It is anticipated that each Dummy Mirror will weigh approximately 11,000 kgs. The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project is an international collaboration to build two 8-meter telescopes, one to be located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini project partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The Gemini project is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under contract to the National Science Foundation.
