R -- DEVELOPMENT OF BIBLIOMETRIC (LITERATURE-BASED) INDICATORS OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PUBLICATION AND CITATION ACTIVITY SOL SRS 96-002 POC Danny Price, Contract Specialist, 703/306-1242. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is soliciting proposals for development of bibliometric (literature-based) indicators of science and engineering publication and citation activity. Development of these indicators is needed to extend current time series for the ''Science and Engineering Indicators'' report series for the years 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 or to develop new bibliometric time series through 1997. Summary and detailed tables of these time series data will be needed in both hard copy and electronic format. Bibliometric measures are constructed from articles and citations to articles which report on science and engineering research and are published in learned journals all over the world. The scope of work includes development of a wide variety of measures such as publication and citation counts by country, sectoral outputs, and measures of scientific process and cooperation, e.g., co-authorship and citation patterns in and across various science and engineering disciplines, sectors,and countries. These data are used in the Congressionally-mandated reports of the National Science Board, such as ''Science and Engineering Indicators,'' and for other analytical needs of the NSF as well.
