W -- CHARTER EQUIPMENT FOR OFFSHORE SURVEY SOL RFP 0003. Contact Point, Warren Saul, Contract Specialist, 415/329-4168; Fax 415/329-5480. The U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement for the lease of a 60 kHz, high-resolution, side scan sonar mapping system with swath widths of 250-2500 meters. The system will be mounted on a towfish and deep towed in the survey area. The sonar system must have these characteristics: a) neutral buoyancy towfish and greater than 50 meter umbilical to decouple ships motion; b) depressor: at least 600 kg; c) sonar correction sensors: heading, pitch, roll, CTD; d) supplemental sensors: 4.5 kHz subbottom profiler; e) Bathymetric Swath Sonar with swath widths up to 2,500 meters; f) towed sensor package depth rated to 4,000 meters; g) passively stabilized towfish to provide optimum performance at towing speeds of 1 to 5 kts; h) Towfish digital telemetry capable of duplex communications over 8,000 meters of UNOLS .68 coaxial cable; i) Realtime digital data acquisition system for all sensors. The sonar mapping system will be used on a survey voyage mobilizing at Seattle WA on July 15, 1996 for a research cruise to last for 25 days. The successful contractor shall supply a crew of qualified operator-technicians to operate, maintain and repair the sonar system during the survey.
