Defense Nuclear Agency, 6801 Telegraph Rd., Alexandria, VA, 22310- 3398

A -- THERMIONIC EVALUATION TECHNICAL SUPPORT POC Daniel Bertuna, Negotiator, (703) 325-1197, Scott G. Morton, Contracting Officer, (703) 325-1200. The Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA) has a requirement for technical support to understand thermionic converters (both single cell and multi-cell) and evaluate Russian thermionic systems and components. Emphasis is placed on understanding and improving thermionic converter performance (efficiency) and lifetime. The technical efforts will range from basic research in life limiting materials through electrical non-nuclear tests of space nuclear reactor power related components, subsystems and systems. The contractor will work closely with scientists from the United States and Russia. The research and technical support will take place at the Thermionic Evaluation Facility (TEF) located on the University of New Mexico's campus in Albuquerque. The TEF is a specialized facility for testing and development of nuclear power technology and is provided through a separate contract with the University. Program planning and preparation of all safety documentation and operational protocols associated with the various testing activities to be conducted at the TEF will also be required. The resultant contract will also provide for the eventual shutdown of the TEF, including clean-up and disposal of all hazardous materials at the facility, and disassembly, shipment and disposal of all program related GFE. This effort is in support of the TOPAZ International Program whose mission is to provide future mission planners with credible nuclear reactor power system technologies. All requests for the RFP must be in writing. Faxed requests are acceptable and shall be faxed to the attention of Daniel Bertuna at (703) 325-9295. If the request is faxed, no hard copy is required. Information on DNA solicitations, already released, can be obtained by calling the DNA Hotline at (703) 325-1173. Reference Synopsis No. 96-48 (0088)
