The National Cancer Institute requires a contract to provide an animal holding facility for mice, separate breeding facility, and separate maintenance area for inoculated animals. All necessary equipment, facilities and personnel shall be provided. The facility shall provide containment level requirements for vaccinia and personnel who are vaccinated for smallpox. The animal care shall include housing, nutrition, hygiene, written and computerized record keeping; sanitation, cleaning of the equipment and facilities as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures; animal handling, restraint, technical laboratory animal procedures, observations and euthanasia. Veterinary medical care and animal health surveillance shall also be provided. The technical laboratory animal procedures shall include, but not be limited to, injections, collection of sera, ascites, and tumors. The period of performance will be for an initial contract period of 12 months plus four 12-month options.
