QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR MECHANICAL SEALS The Defense Industrial Supply Center (DISC) has established a plan to procure Mechanical Seals manufactured in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specification ASTM F1511 and the US Navy Supplement thereto which is attached to ASTM F1511. By January 1, 1998, DISC will procure (for the sizes and configurations described in ASTM F1511) only those Mechanical Seals which are manufactured and qualified in accordance with ASTM F1511. During the interim, DISC will be qualifying mechanical seals to ASTM F1511. Sources previously approved for sizes interchangeable with ASTM F1511 qualified Mechanical Seals, must qualify to ASTM F1511 requirements.
