Bechtel Nevada (BN) is the Management & Operating Contractor for the Department of Energy at the Nevada Test Site (NTS). BN anticipates drilling 6 to 10 boreholes in the next 2 to 3 years. The requirements call for vertical and angle boreholes ranging in lengths from about 100 to 1,000 feet. The drilling projects are for characterization/assessment/monitoring requirements with the objective to collect drill cuttings and core samples for analysis. The primary drilling method will use a casing-advance underreaming drilling system with dual-wall reverse circulation. The drilling fluid will typically be clean-dry air, although other drill fluids may be used. Casing sizes will range from 4-1/2-inch to 10-3/4-inch. All associated Occupational Safety & Health Association, Environmental Protection Agency, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements apply. (085)
