The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for a scanning probe microscope for use in surface characterization and magnetic domain imaging. The scanning probe microscope must be able to satisfactorily deconvolute magnetic ''topology'' from surface topology. This system should include all the hardware and software to carry out STM microscopy, Contact, Non-contact, and intermittent contact microscopy, Lateral Force AFM, Modulated Force AFM, and, most critically, Magnetic Force microscopy.
