This acquisition is 100% small business set-aside. The National Library of Medicine (NLM) intends to conduct a competitive procurement to acquire on-site technical support services for its local area network (LAN) and related data communications systems. The type of support that is required includes installation, configuration, monitoring, trouble shooting, operation, evaluation, test, and documentation of communications hardware and software systems. In addition, direct support of and users of these communications facilities is required in the form of installation, configuration, assistance, training, documentation, etc. Support is also required for the analysis, evaluation, planning and testing of new hardware and software off-the-shelf products, and occasionally custom developed software interfaces. The Contractor shall be required to have experience and expertise in the area of Novell Netware, AppleTalk, and Unix-based LAN operating environments as well as with desktop operating systems such as DOS, Windows, Windows NT, Windows 95, UNIX, AppleTalk, Macintosh, etc. Experience is also required with TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, SNMP, NFS, X.25 and SNA communications protocols, as well as LAN (10 BaseT and FDDI) and WAN (Asynchronous, Frame Relay, ISDN, ATM, etc.) architectures. It is anticipated that a single five (5) year cost-type contract will be awarded. Requests for Request for Proposals (RFP) NLM 96-107/RMC will be available approximately fifteen (15) days after publication of this announcement; however, release of the RFP is contingent upon receipt of a Delegation of Procurement Authority from NIH.
