Official Standard NOM-131-SSA1-1995, Goods and Services. Foodstuffs for
Infants and Young Children. Sanitary and Nutritional Provisions and
Specifications. 6. Description of content: This Mexican Official
Standard establishes sanitary specifications (notification subject to
the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures
(SPM Agreement) and nutritional specifications (notification subject to
the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement)/, for
infant feeding formulas, and packaged foodstuffs and cereal-based
foodstuffs destined for infants and young children. This Standard is
mandatory throughout the national territory for natural and legal
persons engaged in the processing or importation of the aforementioned
items. 7. Objective and rationale: Human health. 8. Relevant
documents: Diario Oficial de la Federacion (Official Journal) of 1
March 1996. 9. Proposed date of adoption: On the day following
