A -- MAINTENANCE OF CHILD HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES NAME AND ADDRESS DATA FILES Contact Mya N. Hlaing, 301-496-4611/Contracting Officer, Mya N. Hlaing, 301-496-4611. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) plans to extend the current contract with the Western Consortium for Public Health, Berkeley, California, using other than full and open competition for a Maintenance of Child Health and Development Studies Name and Address Data Files. The determination to use other than full and open competition was made in accordance with 41 USC 253 (c)(1) and is based upon the following factors: 1) The Western Consortium for Public Health was awarded a contract in 1991 as a follow-on contract N01-HD-1-3134 under the same title. The current contractor Western Consortium for Public Health maintains the name and address data files of the Child Health and Development Studies (CHDS) and provides a service to investigators in contacting and maintaining confidentiality of the subjects in the Child Health and Human Development Studies who are known to the contractor. 2) Western Consortium for Public Health designed to maintain the CHDS name and address files in a manner that preserves patient confidentiality while enabling investigators to pursue new research questions in this uniquely well characterized population of subjects. The proposed extension will take another five years. The current contractor possess unique capabilities to maintain these data files. The current principal investigator and associates participated in collecting the data and developing the extensive CHDS data files that are currently being maintained, augmented, and linked to other registries in California. (See Numbered Note 22). An organization capable of performing this task without a costly and significant break in work should submit a statement of capabilities with documentation supporting its ability to meet the Government's requirements as described above. The purpose of this synopsis is to determine whether there are other sources with the requisite qualifications to perform the work described above.
