301-496-8620. The Office of the Director, Division of Cancer Biology,
within the National Cancer Institute, plans to negotiate with the
Smithsonian Institution a one-year extension of a contract for
Operation of a Registry of Tumors in Lower Animals. The Registry at the
Smithsonian Institution is the focal point through which information on
neoplasms in lower animals is channelled and maintained. The
Smithsonian Institution is the only known source that possesses the
array of expertise and specialized museum facilities competent to
operate and maintain a Registry of this type, dealing solely with
neoplasms in cold-blooded vertebrate and invertebrate animals. In
addition, the Smithsonian Institution has the ability to attract
scientists worldwide for the submission of specimens. The statutory
authority for this noncompetitive acquisition is 41 USC 253(c)(1), as
