COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 8,1996 PSA#1568CONTROLLED RELEASE OF EXPANDING DENDRIMERS Sandia National Laboratories
is seeking partners to develop and commercialize a proprietary
dendrimer technology. According to a recent Wall Street Journal
(2/26/96) article, dendrimers have enormous market potential for
applications in areas such as cosmetics, perfumes, deodorants, shampoo,
time-released pharmaceuticals, in-vivo therapeutics and diagnostics,
computer storage, electronics, and many other industrial and consumer
products. The WSJ article stated that the market potential for these
man made molecules with the hollow, 3-D structure, known as dendrimers,
is enormous: ``a kilogram of dendrimers can generate $50 million in
revenues.'' Of course, no one can predict whether our particular
technology will be able to capture a part of this market. However, we
are looking to work with entities to explore the possibilities. The
Sandia technology is titled, ``Controlled Release of Molecular
Components Comprising the Use of Fragmenting and Expanding Molecules.''
A non-disclosing description of the technology follows: A method of
releasing molecules (guest molecules) from the matrix formed by the
structure of another molecule (host molecule) in a controllable manner.
Applications are in medicine, particularly in the treatment of cancer
and viral infections. Similar effects can also be obtained by
controlled fragmentation of a source molecule where molecular fragments
form the active principle. Sandia can partner with both the private
sector or other public sector institutions in a variety of business
arrangements including CRADAs (Cooperative Research & Development
Agreements), and commercial licenses, up to and including exclusive
licenses within particular fields-of-use. Interested parties are asked
to response by writing or faxing to: Joanne Trujullo, Technology
Partnerships & Commercialization, Sandia National Laboratories, PO Box
5800- MS 1380, Albuquerque, NM 87185, FAX (505) 843-4175. Only parties
that have the capacity to provide financial support for technology
development, and/or the ability to bring the dendrimer technology to a
product stage will be eligible to participate. Potential partners will
be asked to fill out a participant data sheet and provide a brief
commercialization plan for the technology. Please respond by April 12,
1996. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0371 19960405\SP-0002.MSC)
