surgical scrub sinks shall be constructed in such a way that the end
user will be able to perform preoperative scrubbing of hands and arms
and general hand washing in the operating room. The sinks shall be used
for every surgical procedure performed in Surgical Suites, Urology
Surgical Room, and Minor Surgical Room. The surgical scrub sinks shall
be constructed of stainless steel, seamlessly welded to reduce the
buildup of dirt and microorganisms in joints and ridges. Basins shall
be designed to reduce splashing of soiled water to the maximum extent
possible. The sinks shall allow the user to operate in a hands free
environment minimizing the chances of contamination. The sink and
facets shall be designed in such a way to facilitate the cleaning and
disinfecting of the unit. The surgical scrub sinks shall have a
non-hand operated water dispenser activation, controlled through an
electronic infrared system. The infrared system shall dispense water by
electronically detecting the presence of the user. The dispenser shall
be designed in such a way as to allow the user to complete the scrub
procedure and, to the maximum extent possible, the unit shall be energy
and resource efficient. The surgical scrub sinks shall have non-hand
operated soap dispensers and shall be designed in such a way to
facilitate the cleaning of the dispenser. At a minimum, at the top of
the unit, there shall be an automatic water temperature control through
a thermostatically or electronically controlled valve and, to prevent
accidental scalding, an automatic shutdown valve that will stop water
flow should the cold water supply fail or the water exceeds 115F. The
unit shall have a storage shelf that will be used for the storage of
soap. Requirements: One single bay unit installed; one three bay unit
installed; and nine two bay units installed. All interested concerns
are required to investigate the site to determine the amplitude of the
requirements. An organized site visit has been scheduled for April 18,
1996 at 1:00 PM EST. Bldg. 820, Room 2R7 of Wright Patterson AFB.
