Drug Abuse is soliciting proposals from qualified organizations having
in-house capacity to perform experiments in laboratory animals to
systematically evaluate the pharmacological activities and
toxicological effects of potential treatment drugs, both new and
marketed, for treatment of drug abuse. Specifically, treatment drugs
for two classes of drugs of abuse (cocaine and opiates) will be
investigated preclinically. For the toxicological evaluation of new
treatment drugs, toxicological properties and adverse interactions,
including cardiovascular interactions, with drugs of abuse will be
systematically tested. Offerors must submit with the proposal,
documentation of a current DEA registration for Schedule II-V
controlled substances and compliance with the NIH guidelines on the
care and use of laboratory animals. It is estimated that a 4 year
contract, with additional quantity options, will result from this
procurement. Estimated issuance date of RFP No. N01DA-6-8068 is April
25, 1996 and responses are due to be received in the Contracting Office
45 calendar days thereafter. Written requests for copies of the
solicitation will be honored if received within twenty calendar days
after issuance of the solicitation. Written requests received after
this period will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis until
the supply is exhausted; however, there is no assurance that copies
requested after the twentieth day will reach the requestor before the
due date for receipt of responses. Written requests shall be forwarded
