Laboratory (NRL) is engaged in a wide range of research and development
programs involving critical components for microwave and millimeter
wave frequency applications for next generation communications systems,
active electronically- scanned arrays, and highly accurate smart
weapons. Emphasis is focused on developing enabling technologies such
as MMIC devices, increasing chip functionality, improving interconnects
and enclosures, improving test methodologies, and producing affordable
and reproducible designs. NRL has a requirement for research and
development to assess the major Navy systems applications for these
components and develop a plan for producing affordable technologies
which are capable of fulfilling present and future Navy needs. The
research will be in the following areas: (a) electronic materials and
semiconductor devices and circuits, (b) vacuum electronics, (c)
manufacturing techniques, (d) quality assurance testing and reliability
assessment, and (e) technology insertion. The period of performance for
the Base effort is 12 months with three 12 month options. Request for
