Mail Transportation Purchasing. The US Postal Service has near-term
plans to issue a Request for Proposals for dedicated transportation
operations for the movement of all classes of mail with two Processing
and Distribution Centers (P&DC) service areas in the Chicagoland area.
This transportation will service Post Office facilities within the
defined intra-P&DC service are; i.e., the Post Offices served are
clients of the main Processing and Distributions Centers. Based on
current plans, the Postal Service intends to seek service in the
following P&DC areas: Palatine P&DC, Illinois and Carol Stream P&DC,
Illinois. General Equipment and Operating Requirements: Suppliers will
be required to perform transportation network operations within an
approximate 60 mile radius from the Postal plants listed above.
Equipment requirements will include single and/or tandem axle tractors
and trailers, and some straight body trucks. All vehicles must be
equipped with roll up doors and be modified to transport rolling
containers. In addition to the equipment requirements listed above,
suppliers will be required to manage the transportation network
operation on a day-to-day basis, and must be able to continuously
communicate with truck operators while they are performing route
operations. The hours of operation will encompass the full 24 hour day,
seven days per week. These transportation networks will support the
processing of ordinary mails, high value mails, and mail transport
equipment. The Postal Service is interested in identifying and
prequalifying an adequate number of proven transportation suppliers to
insure that we meet our quality goals at reasonable prices. The Postal
Service will evaluate suppliers who apply for participation in the
procurement based on the following criteria: 1. recent successful
experiences in performing large scale transportation operations. 2. key
personnel at all levels who are experienced in the management of
network transportation operations. 3. proven record of safe operations
and compliance with state, federal and local equipment and safety
operations. 4. clear documentation that demonstrates past and current
financial stability. If you would like to be included in the
prequalification process for highway transportation procurements in any
or all of the geographical areas listed above, submit a written request

All requests for prequalification packages must be received by close of
