14 -- REQUIREMENT FOR MULTIPLE LAUNCH ROCKET SYSTEM EXTENDED RANGE ROCKET (ER-MLRS) FACILITIZATION/LOW RATE INITIAL PRODUCTION SOL DAAH01-96-R-0057 DUE 011696 POC James W. Synopsis No: 0629-95 The U.S. Army intends to acquire Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) quantities of the MLRS Extended Range Rocket (ER-MLRS) (APN 13213750, NSN 1340-01-398-2159) and associated facilitization (upgrades) to support initial production. Initial quantity for FY96 is 229 rocket pods (RPs). Anticipated option quantities for FY97 and 98 are 346 RPs and 998 RPs, respectively, and will include requirements for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers. Effort is anticipated to be sole source to the system prime contractor, Loral Vought Systems Corporation (LVS), Dallas, TX, who is now completing final development of the ER-MLRS, including overall integration into the existing MLRS system hardware and software. As final design has not been fully validated, successful modification to the existing production facilities and manufacture/production of initial quantities of ER-MLRS must be accomplished in concert with the completion of this development, by the only source completely knowledgeable of the total system specifications, capabilities, compatibility and interoperability requirements (as well as knowledge of the ER-MLRS peculiar specifications).
