The contract objective is to provide the technical support required to maintain and operate the Highway Safety Information System (HSIS). And to develop a third generation HSIS (HSIS-III) that improves the utility of the system in meeting the current and future highway safety data needs of the FHWA and the safety community. This study shall further operate, evaluate, and enhance the HSIS. The existing system shall be maintained and additional years of accident, roadway, and traffic data shall be acquired as they become available from the participating States. The system maintenance will include monitoring and upgrading of the system to utilize state-of-the-art computer hardware and software. The HSIS will be enhanced by identifying, collecting and integrating new data files in the existing States. The HSIS shall be utilized to address current and future highway safety analysis issues of national importance. All requests must be submitted in writing.
