Service requires a replacement technique for the Agency's currently
approved soxhlet extractor for Total Fat analysis of samples. An
analyzer that uses supercritical fluid technology in an automated mode
to extract the fat directly from the sample without any need to dry
the sample is required. The throughput requirement should be equal to
or greater than soxhlet extraction method (currently 80-100 samples per
eight hour day), and should be at least equal to the soxhlet in
repeatability, reproducibility, and cost of operation. The system
should reduce or eliminate hazardous waste exposure/disposal and safety
hazards. The system shall eliminate, as much as possible, analyst
intervention in the analysis of samples. The unit shall be capable of
producing hardcopy and electronic format of all pertinent sample data.
Laboratory space required for the system should not exceed 8 feet of
laboratory bench space. The unit should not require the use of any type
of ventilation or exhaust equipment. The unit shall be capable of
analyzing at least a 1 gram sample. Solicitation documents will be
