(301) 435-0366. It is the intent of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood
Institute (NHLBI) to issue Invitation for Bid (IFB) Number
NHLBI-HL-P-96-104 to purchase a Stainless Steel High Density Rabbit
Caging System, with the following minimum specifications: 1) Stainless
steel integral rabbit rack units. Rack frame shall be constructed of
1'' square x 18 gauge stainless steel tubing with a nominal size no
larger than 52.500'' wide x 80.875'' high. Each rack shall consist of
eight cage compartments, two wide by four tiers high. Each tier is
equipped with a divider, when in place each compartment equals 5.0
square foot, equating 24'' wide by 30'' deep by 16'' high. When
removed, the compartment equals a ten (10) square foot compartment,
equating 48'' wide by 30'' deep by 16'' high. Integral units shall be
a one piece wrapper to frame, with solid sides and back, having a
removable floor and divider walls. Integral units shall be constructed
of 22 gauge stainless steel. Overall dimensions shall be 52'' wide x
31'' deep 81'' high, including casters; 2) Below each cage compartment
shall be a stainless steel litter waste pan. Pans are constructed with
a taper design to nest. The pans shall be constructed of 22 gauge
stainless steel, and measure 25'' wide by 29.75'' deep by 2'' high.
Pans shall be heli-arc welded construction, and all welds glass bead
blasted; 3) All floors of the unit shall be removable and perforated.
The perforation pattern shall be no larger than 5/8'' square holes on
7/8'' centers, providing 1/4'' flat surface between openings. Floors
shall be constructed of 14 gauge stainless steel. The nominal size of
the floors shall be 30'' deep x +'' high. Floors shall be
electropolished, and have a heli-arc welded construction; 4) Doors
shall be removable with vertical rod bar construction and a solid lower
portion. Unit doors shall be electropolished. Each door shall be
provided with a slide on 'J' style feeder. Feeders shall be constructed
of 24 gauge stainless steel, be 3.500'' wide x 5.5'' deep x 6'' high.
A cage card holder that is 5'' wide x 3'' high, side loading,
constructed of 24 gauge stainless steel shall be welded to the door; 5)
Each integral unit shall be equipped with a stainless steel automatic
watering system. Utilizing the reverse 'S' style, with 8 rabbit
drinking valves, 2 wide x 4 high, and have 2 formed 11 gauge stainless
steel H2O protection brackets on the rear of the unit; 6) Each unit
shall be equipped with casters. Casters are plate type stainless steel,
swivel, 5'' diameter with lubricating fittings in the swivel and wheel
axle. Wheels are polyurethane. Four casters per set, per unit, and two
of the set shall have brakes and two shall not. It is anticipated that
Invitation for Bid (IFB) Number NHLBI-HL-P-96-104 will be issued on or
