A -- RESARCH SUPPORT SERVICES AND LABORATORY ANIMAL CARE FOR THE NIDA, DIR SOL NO1DA-6-9053 DUE 061096 POC Dale Weiss, Contracting Officer phone no., (301) 443-1301, fax no., (301) 443-7595 The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is soliciting proposals from qualified organizations to provide the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Division of Intramural Research (DIR), located in Baltimore, MD, with all professional and technical services required to: (1) recruit, support, and maintain a large (up to 100 person) staff with a wide range of skills and training, ranging from entry level animal caretakers to doctoral level scientists; 2) expand and contract the staff based on the current needs of the DIR; 3) provide animal husbandry for a wide range of species including, but not limited to, rodents, frogs, pigeons and nonhuman primates in accordance with the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals; 4) provide backup veterinary services on an as needed basis; 5) prepare for and participate in laboratory reviews by AAALAC; 6) perform rodent and nonhuman primate surgery; 7) develop and implement environmental enrichment programs for nonhuman primates; 8) produce and breed transgenic and knockout mice; 9) develop and maintain breeding colonies for selected genetic mouse strains; 10) use standard techniques in molecular biology and neuroscience including the preparation of samples and their analysis using autoradiography, in situ hybridization, site directed mutagenesis, electrophoresis, and other techniques; 11) use microdialysis; and, 12) use rodents and nonhuman primates in a variety of behavioral testing techniques. The estimated issuance date is 4/26/96. This is a follow-on procurement to contract number N01DA-2-6006 with Bionetics Corporation. It is estimated that a five year contract will result from this procurement. (0103)
