(907)683-9505 A glacier monitoring protocol document is needed for the
Long Term Ecological Monitoring (LTEM) program in Denali National Park
and Preserve. The expected document should be a text that includes
photos, diagrams, maps, graphs, examples, and other supporting
information that specifies how to carry out the specific program of
glacier research which has been underway in Denali since 1992. The
document should detail four major topics which are: 1) Monitoring
design and current program status, providing background informaiton on
the purpose and need for the glacier monitoring program and a general
description of the ''single index stake'' mass balance measuring
method as it is employed in Denali; 2) Field site and data collection
procedures, providing details on index site selection, installation,
and survey procedures; 3) Data reduction and management protocols,
including equations and calculation routines for mass balance, flow,
surface elevation changes, and other glacier data collections, as well
as calibration and correction routines; 4) Data storage, comparative
evaluations and reporting requirements, including descriptions of the
appropriate methods for producing data sets which are useful for
comparison with data from other glacier monitoring efforts in Alaska,
the United States and the world. Interested parties should have first
