interested in identifying small/medium-sized manufacturers who
currently or in the past have made mechanical part products for the
Department of Defense to participate in the Rapid Acquisition of
Manufactured Parts (RAMP) Program's STEP Proveout for Small/Medium
Manufacturer (SP S/MM) Project. The objective of this project is to
significantly improve the U.S. manufacturing industry's ability to meet
Department of Defense requirements through a program of research,
development, and technology transfer for small/medium-sized
manufacturing industries which supply repair parts and materials. The
project scope is the production of ten mechanical parts using STEP
AP203 product model data filesets as source technical data packages for
each part. The South Carolina Research Authority will select two
interested defense manufacturers to participate in a six month proveout
period. Selection of manufacturers will be based upon the following
priority of items for SP S/MM concept implementation: (1) Current use
of AutoCAD for design of 3D solid models, (2) Current Use of Computer
Numerically Controlled (CNC) Machine-tools in production, (3) Current
Use of SmartCAM for manufacturing, (4) Proficiency in 3D solid model
design for NC coding, and (5) Location of manufacturing proveout site,
preferably in the southeast USA. As this project is scheduled to be
performed under Government Contract No. N00612-95-D-6501, SCRA does not
