COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 18,1996 PSA#1576CALL FOR PAPERS: COGNITIVE TASK ANALYSIS The Human Systems Center (HSC)
currently has several tutor development efforts designed to increase
performance on complex cognitive tasks such as aircraft maintenance.
The tutors provide a coached environment where the student will ``learn
by doing'' in a simulation of the real world environment. The coaching
generates domain expert advice based on the actions the student has
performed using a knowledge base. A Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) is
performed to gather information prior to building each tutor. The CTA
includes the collecting, analyzing and developing the data necessary to
build the tutor. The CTA data includes reports to support the problem
set, curriculum organization, system model, student model, expert
strategies, and coaching strategies in the tutor. The Human Systems
Program Office (HSC/YA) is calling for papers on methods of performing
a CTA for developing a intelligent tutoring system to teach
troubleshooting skills. We are interested in methods to identify
deficiencies in system, procedural, and strategic expertise in the
field and defining expert behaviors to be taught in the tutor. A
specification of the tutoring system is available on the World Wide Web
at http://www.brooks.af.mil/HSC/PKA/programs/mst/master.html. Send one
(1) copy of paper to: Yolanda Tollinger, HSC/YAK, Bldg 727, Brooks AFB
TX 78235-5218, not later than 02 June 96. All papers submitted will be
retained by the government. Authors may be invited to brief topics of
particular interest to the government. For questions of a technical
