Basic Education Support Project-Technical Assistance in support of Namibia's Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), The National Institute for Educational Development (NEID) and the Examinations Directorate (ED) to stregthen the Institutional Capacity of the Ministry in the areas of Curriculum and Syllabus Design and Development of Teaching and Learning Materials. The United States Agency for International Development, Regional Center for Southern Africa, intends to enter into a sole source contract amendment with the Institute for International Research (IIR) to provide for an additional long term advisor specializing in Primary School Curriculum, add a monitoring and evaluation component, and provide additional funding to increase the amount of Basic Education workshops that will focus on the development of curriculum in African languages, instructional and continuous assessment materials and training of key professionals in the target regions. Based on the nature and expertise of the services provided and the relationships established between the contractor and the appropriate Government of Namibia (GON) Ministry, both the GON and USAID believe IIR is uniquely suited to undertake these expanded activities. USAID is unaware of any firm that is capable of implementing the expanded activities within a short period of time, without the benefit of an existing team and support staff in-country and the ability to maintain uninterrupted technical assistance services.
