975-6330 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis with Dornier GmbH
(Deutsche Aerospace) of Friedrichshafen, Germany for a replacement
Neutron Velocity Selector (NVS). This NVS shall be able to transmit
neutrons in the wavelength range of at least 0.45 nm to 4.5 nm under
standard operation with a resolution of 20%. By tilting the range shall
be extended down to 0.30 nm. The transmission of the NVS under standard
operation shall range from 80% to 95%. For tilt operation the
transmissions shall be better than 75%. The speed constancy of the
instrument shall be 0.5%. The blade material shall be carbon fiber in
epoxy with 10B as the absorbing material. The windows material shall be
aluminum of less than 0.5 mm thickness or of beryllium of comparable
transmission. The housing shall be made of aluminum. This NVS is
intended for use as a replacement backup for the two NVSs produced by
Dornier and currently in use at NIST.--Delivery required 150 days after
