COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 23,1996 PSA#1579NATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAM CO-SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY Contact Point, Dr.
Regan Crump, (301) 594-4340. The Health Resources and Services
Administration (HRSA) announces the opportunity for private and public
organizations to join HRSA in co-sponsoring the ``MODELS THAT WORK''
Campaign. The campaign is a nationwide, multi-year initiative designed
to identify and promote programs that serve as models of innovative
approaches to the delivery of primary and preventive health care to
underserved and vulnerable populations. HRSA's Bureau of Primary Health
Care launched the Campaign in the fall of 1994. The next cycle of the
Campaign will begin May 1, 1996, with a national competition to
identify model programs. The Campaign has four main objectives; (1) to
identify programs that serve as models of innovative approaches to the
delivery of primary and preventive health care to underserved and
vulnerable populations; (2) to stimulate public-private partnerships
that support innovative community-based primary care infrastructures;
(3) to share information and stimulate replication of model programs
nationwide; and (4) to maintain a dialogue with health care leaders and
decision-makers about the benefits of investing in new approaches for
providing primary and preventive care. The winners of the competition
will be featured at a national symposium in Washington, D.C. this fall.
Lessons learned and information about the winning models will be shared
through a variety of means, including press releases, articles, a
video, a compendium, and exhibits at conferences. The winners are
expected to be available to provide technical assistance to entities
interested in replicating or adapting their model. Co-sponsoring
organizations must have a substantive interest in the goals of the
Campaign and are expected to be active participants in the Campaign.
Co-sponsoring involves joint development, support implementation, and
evaluation of the Campaign with Bureau of Primary Health Care and other
co-sponsors. A copy of the guidelines is available upon request.
Representatives of interested organizations can nominate their
organization by submitting a 1-3 page letter no later than May 3, 1996.
The letter should include a description of the organization and its
mission; evidence of substantive interest in the campaign; and a
statement on how the organization's participation shall enhance the
ability of the campaign to fulfill its purpose. The request for the
guidelines may be faxed to (301) 594-4997 or Email
