COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 24,1996 PSA#1580SWEDEN: REGULATIONS CONCERNING BOW DOORS AND INNER DOORS ON RO-RO
PASSENGER SHIPS The following notification is being circulated in
accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 96.88. 1. Member to
Agreement notifying: SWEDEN. If applicable, name of local government

may be provided in addition, where applicable): Bow doors and inner
doors on ro-ro passenger ships. 5. Title, number of pages and
language(s) of the notified document. The Decree by the National
Maritime Administration with Regulations Concerning Bow Doors and Inner
Doors with the Equipment Belonging to it on Ro-Ro Passenger Ships. 6.
Description of content: The rule gives requirements for the
arrangement, strength and securing of bow doors and inner doors leading
to a complete or long forward enclosed superstructure on Swedish ro-ro
passenger ships. The requirements are found in the Annex to the
Decree. The rule sums-up demands claimed by the International
Association of Classification Societies (AICS) and by the International
Maritime Organization (IMO): 1. Depending on the construction year of
the above-mentioned ships, they shall either comply with AICS' Rules S
16 1995, or AICS' Rules S 8 Rev. 2, 1995 V2. 2. The ships shall also
comply with certain requirements concerning the impenetrability and the
placing of the extended collision bulkhead, systems for indication and
monitoring, operating and maintenance manual etc. (correspond to the
amendment to the Annex to the International Convention for the Safety
of Life at Sea 1974, Regulation 10 and 23-2, 6 December 1995). The
introduction of the requirements under 2. implies that the introduction
of new IMO requirements are brought forward in Sweden. 7. Objective and
rationale: To increase the safety on ro-ro passenger ships with the
establishment of a safety standard concerning the arrangement, strength
and securing of bow doors and inner doors. 8. Relevant documents: AICS'

Annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea
1974, Regulation 10 and 23-2, 6 December 1995. 9. Proposed date of
