INSTALLATIONS The following notification is being circulated in
accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 96.78. 1. Member to

This is a design code for energy efficiency of lighting installations
covering the control of lamp luminous efficacy, lamp controlgear loss
and lighting power density. 5. Title, number of pages and language(s)
of the notified document: ``Code of Practice for Energy Efficiency of
Lighting Installations'' in draft. The Code has 40 pages including
appendix. 6. Description of content: The proposed Lighting Code sets
out the minimum requirements for achieving energy-efficient lighting
installations. The scope of this Code covers lighting installations for
indoor spaces of commercial buildings (e.g. offices, hotels),
educational institutions and indoor sports centres. The Code's
requirements are mainly related to luminous efficacy and controlgear
loss of a lamp as well as lighting power density of an indoor space.
The control figures are derived from data obtained from surveys
conducted in Hong Kong. Reference has also been made to national energy
codes of other countries. A public consultation exercise is being
conducted to invite relevant parties to comment on technical aspects of
the Code and to give opinions on the ways of implementing the Code. 7.
Objective and rationale: The proposed Lighting Code is one of a series
of Building Energy Codes that are being developed mainly for building
professionals, to promote the design of energy-efficient buildings. 8.

Proposed date of entry into force: Since ways of implementing the Code
(e.g. mandatory, voluntary or other administrative approaches) are
still under consideration and the consultation exercise for the Code is
in progress, the proposed date of adoption and entry into force is not
