Survey/Request for Information (RFI). AFSOC is soliciting information
from public and private sector organizations on a low profile (2 to 4
inches), lightweight backstyle parachute. Parachute configuration to
include to include pack, harness, and canopy must be less than 17 lbs.
Chute must have quick release ejector snaps attached to leg and chest
straps; fit 99 percent of assigned personnel without custom fitting;
frost canopy release with Sewars or current AF water-activate release
system and have an automated opening device from Scott Automatic
Parachute Release (Model 1500) which is the only one currently
qualified by the Air Force. Needs to integrate with current AF life
support and aircrew flight equipment including life preserver
(LPU-10/P), SRU-21/P survival vest, aircrew eye/respiratory protective
system (AERP), oxygen mask, survival kit, parachute spacer kit (fanny
pack), helmet, boom microphone, locator beacon, and emergency oxygen
bailout bottle. Must be capable of being deployed manually or
automatically, be worn through all phases of flight/crew duties, have
rate of descent of not more than 19 fps (required), 17.5 fps (desired).
Damage to canopy will not increase the rate of descent beyond 23 fps
for a 300 lb gross weight standard sea level condition. Opening shock
NTE 15 Gs through risers and withstand opening at 185 KEAS at 18,000 ft
and 150 KEAS at 14,000 ft. Must be steerable with input from the user.
Should demonstrate a minimum 90 percent reliability with a 90 percent
confidence interval with a goal of 95 percent reliability with a 95
percent confidence level. Training requirements should not be more than
for current parachutes. Must provide commercial repair/maintenance/user
manual. Due to the criticality of the items, independent test reports
should be provided if available. Responses to this market survey/RFI
should provide technical data. All corporate and proprietary
