DUE 061496 POC Contact Sherry A. Smallwood, Contract Specialist at
(404)842-6553 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a
requirement to increase our current license to distribute the Xcellenet
Remoteware Communications node and Mail Node software products from 50
nodes to 250 nodes, and upgrade the current Xcellenet Remoteware
server software to Model 2/Version 2.0. Solicitation #96-99(N) will be
issued on approximately May 15, 1996 to Xcellenet, Inc., 5 Concourse
Parkway, Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30328 on a sole source basis.
Xcellenet, Inc. is the only known firm capable of providing this
requirement. Authority: FAR 6.302-1, Citation 40 USC 759(g).
Justification: Software is available from only one source and no other
type of software will satisfy agency requirements. The Remoteware
software has been incorporated into the IDEAS data base management
software system that CDC has developed and have been using in our NNIS
hospitals since 1984. The Remoteware software enables CDC to
electronically transfer data from participating NNIS hospitals, process
that data in real time on an OS2-based Remoteware server, and then
transfer a program back to the hospital that is then run on the client
machine to acknowledge successful receipt of the data. In addition, an
e-mail capability is provided that has proven crucial in monitoring the
quality of the data being collected by our NNIS hospitals. Most of the
NNIS hospitals do not have access to the Internet yet, nor have access
to any other method of communicating with us via e-mail. The Remoteware
software also enables CDC to automatically check to be sure that all of
the files in the IDEAS software system are the latest version, and to
distribute updates of the software whenever discrepancies are
discovered. Finally, the Remoteware software enables CDC to take
control of the client machine and execute the IDEAS software from CDC,
greatly improving CDC's ability to provide technical support to
participating hospitals. Only written or facsimile requests for the
solicitation package will be honored. See Note 22. (0115) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0278 19960425\70-0002.SOL)
