An RFP is currently being prepared to: (1) solicit for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) modulation and error correction techniques that are more bandwidth efficient than quadrature phase-shift keying modulation (QPSK). These techniques will be used to increase the throughput of both 5-kHz and 25-kHz DAMA {UHF} SATCOM channels. These techniques will be designated as the DoD standard and used to improve the UHF SATCOM military standards MIL-STD-188-181, MIL-STD-188-182, and MIL-STD-188-183; (2) procure a small number of modems that will be used by Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) organizations for UHF SATCOM standards verification and certification testing; (3) verify changes to UHF SATCOM DAMA standards that reduce the set-up and push-to-talk delays when operating over 5-kHz DAMA channels.
