Officer Al Bariatti (202) 782-1280 (Site Code DADA15) Walter Reed Army
Medical Center intends to enter sole source negotiations with Digital
Instruments, Santa Barbara, California, for a multimode atomic force
microscope system for the Biophysics Division of the Armed Forces
Institute of Pathology. This sole source solicitation is in accordance
with FAR Part 6. The atomic force microscope (AFM) system will be used
for imaging biological molecules and cellular structures in air and in
fluids using the Tapping mode and Tapping mode in fluids imaging
techniques with motorized automated cantilever approach. Cantilever
oscillations must range in frequency from 10KHz to 1MHz with an
amplitude of up to 500nm. Tapping mode in fluids should allow for the
oscillation of the entire fluid cell. The AFM system should also be
capable of contact, non-contact, magnetic-force modulation,
electrical-force modulation, lateral-force modulation, force-modulation
imaging in fluids, force-volume imaging, phase-contrast imaging, and
fluid cell operation without changing or requiring additional scanners.
Justification for other than full and open competition is based on 10
U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), whereby supplies or services required are available
from only one source and no other type of supplies or services will
satisfy agency requirements. Interested firms may submit a written
request to the address listed above, stating name, address and
solicitation number. Requests may be faxed to (202) 782-7547. No
telephone requests for the solicitation package will be
accepted.(0124) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0258 19960506\66-0009.SOL)
