Team 1, 202/287-2142. The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D,C,
20560, seeks Architect-Engineering Services for various architectural,
structural, mechanical and electrical projects. Required services
include, but are not limited to, architectural and engineering studies,
cost analyses, preparation of construction contract documents for
architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection,
security systems, cost estimation and hazardous material abatement for
a varitey of projects including exhibits, museum shops, food services,
and repair and improvement of building systems throughout the
Institution. Other services may include construction management and
inspection, submittal review and preparation of record drawings,
preparation of models and renderings, interior space planning and
design. Firms unable to accept hazardous mateial abatement projects
need not apply. Design and construction of all projects will utilize
S.I. (metric) system measurement. It is anticipated that contracts will
be awarded to a minimum of two (2) firms with strong architectural
capabilities/qualifications including museum shop and food service
design capabilities with structrural, mechanical, electrical and other
engineering support. It is further anticipated that each contract will
be for a period of one (1) year with four (4) one (1) year options and
that each contract may provide a maximum design effort of
approximately $1,000,000 per year with individual work orders not to
exceed $500,000. Firm evaluation and selection will be based on the
following criteria: 1) Project team members' qualifications and
experience. 2) Specialized experience and technical competence of the
firm and major subcontractors and consultants with museums, historic
structures, National Landmark Properties and the Section 106 review
process, scientific/engineering facilities, retail and food service
design, hazardous material abatement including lead and abestos
abatement, facilities accomodating large numbers of public visitors,
environmentally sensitive sites, renovation of facilities while
maintaining operations and renovation/restoration projects. 3) capacity
of the project team to accomplish the work within specific time
constraints based on submittal of individuals' current and projected
workloads. 4) Past performance on contracts in terms of cost control,
quality of work, responsiveness and compliance with performance
schedules. 5) Firm competence, as demonstrated by sumittal of internal
quality control, cost control and scheduling procedures. 6) Location
in the geographical area of greater metropolitan Washington, D.C. and
knowledge of the locality. 7) CAD capacity. The successful firm will be
expected to sign a standard, unmodified, Federal A/E contract.

attached original and a loose copy of a brief cover letter on company
